Pick Up Information

We are getting so close to the time when you take home your new little family member In this email, we have included our pickup information and process to better prepare you to bring your puppy home. And, drumroll please, the moment you have been waiting for...here’s the pick up and go-home instructions.

How to Prepare for Your Puppy Pick Up:

  1. Book your pick up time slot using the Calendly Link you receive by email. Pick up day is generally the Saturday after puppies turn 8 weeks, unless we have made other arrangements with you.

  2. Arrive at the scheduled time. We have moved to porch pick ups.  We schedule appointments every 15 minutes on pick up day, arriving at your scheduled time helps keep us on track for the day.  We will bring your puppy and your go home bag out to the porch when you arrive, snap a few pictures, and help you get loaded up. By making the pick up short and sweet it is easier on the puppies and on our hearts as we say good bye to each of the sweet babies we love and raise as our own.

  3. If you haven’t already, Call TODAY to schedule your puppy’s first VET visit (within 3 business days of pick up). Vets book out 2-3 weeks in advance for new puppy appointments. This initial visit is a great time to get started on heartworm and flea preventative and discuss Bordetella and Lepto Vaccines with your vet. Please ask your vet for options that do NOT contain Ivermectin as Aussie and working breeds can be sensitive to those. We err on the side of caution. Visit Collie Chatter for some safer alternatives for parasite preventative. We recently started

  4. Schedule your puppy's 2nd DHPP at 12 weeks and 3rd DHPP/Rabies at 16 weeks. Please email copies of your well check and future vaccination records to info@mcdoodlesoftexas.com for your health warranty.

  5. Order puppy food: We feed a mix of the following items from PawTree. Don’t forget to use the discount code INTRO4U20 on your first order.

  6. Activate your FREE Trupanion Pet Insurance, no strings attached,  30 day free no wait period Trupanion pet insurance is included with every puppy. This intro period will not auto-enroll a credit card, there is no financial risk for you to be wary of, so please sign up! This must be activated within 24 hours of bringing puppy home. We strongly encourage you to take advantage of the free trial period. This will cover your puppy for unexpected ER visit in the first 30 days (i.e. insect bites, ingesting toxic items, injury, etc.). It is very common for new puppy owners to respond in fear to normal puppy health fluctuations, and you don't want to pay for a vet to tell you, 'she's great', so please sign up. The promo code for the free Trupanion will be included in your go home bag and emailed to you.

  7. Puppy-proof your house (watch for those electric cords, cables toys, and toxic plants) puppies are like toddlers and chew on everything. Check your fence, puppies are about the size of a rabbit and can squeeze through tiny spaces under the fence.

  8. Have you lined up a trainer? A socialization plan? While I know it is scary to take your puppy out in public, there are safe ways to do so (“all four off the floor”) - drive around in the car with the windows down, carry your pup around in a puppy sling etc. It is imperative that your puppy continue to be exposed to things in a positive manner. I had eight weeks and you only have eight weeks, and then the rest is remedial training. All puppies need to know that the world is safe, dogs are friendly, and people are kind. Ensure that every interaction is safe and positive.

  9. You will receive a Go Home Packet by email.  Please review the packet, it will answer most of the questions you have. If you still have some after reading it, please let us know. We are here to partner with you as long as you need us.

  10. We want you to be properly prepared, so you can visit our website for recommended supplies. We update this on a regular basis as we find and test new items. You can also click HERE for our recommended puppy supply list.

  11. Do the new puppy dance! Go ahead, no one is watching! For the moment, you have been waiting for…here’s the pick up and go-home instructions:

Keep Our Puppies Safe, Pre-Visit Protocol:

Before visiting our facility, please do not spend time with any dogs or puppies (outside of the ones in your home), or visit ANY pet stores, shelters, humane societies, dog parks etc. for a minimum of 72 hours prior to the day of the visit. Parvo is a very dangerous, highly contagious canine virus that can be innocently transmitted on clothing and shoes. It will kill an entire litter, if they are exposed.

What does pick up look like?

  • When you arrive we will bring puppy out to your loving arms.

  • We will review some of the basics for taking home puppy.

  • You will receive a “Go Home Bag” with information to help with the transition as well as a few supplies to make the transition easier.

  • You will take lots of pictures

  • To transport home, you will want a collar, leash, and a blanket or crate for the ride.

  • Remember to give your new baby time to get acclimated when you get home. We suggest keeping it low key for the first couple of days.
